Our team

The people in your corner

Three attorneys and a small staff, in an office on Historic Mitchell Street that you can walk or take the bus to.

We started Clearway because the people who most needed a bankruptcy lawyer were the least able to pay for one. We're funded by grants, donations and volunteer hours, so our clients don't have to pay us.

The attorney you meet first is the one who handles your case.

Attorneys

Meet the attorneys

  • Renée Kowalski, smiling, in a navy blazer in a bright room

    Renée Kowalski

    Executive director and managing attorney

Renée started Clearway after years of watching neighbors lose paychecks to debts they could have shed. She runs the clinic and still takes Chapter 7 cases every week.

  • Daniel Ferreira, smiling, in a tan blazer and white shirt

    Daniel Ferreira

Staff attorney, Chapter 13 and foreclosure

Daniel handles Chapter 13 plans and foreclosure defense. He meets clients in English or Spanish, and he likes nothing better than a plan that keeps a family in its house.

  • Amira Haddad, smiling, in a patterned headscarf and white blazer in a bright office

    Amira Haddad

Staff attorney, garnishment and collection defense

Amira defends people against collection lawsuits and wage garnishments. She answers the court papers, talks to the collectors, and files bankruptcy when that's the cleaner way out.
